The Claydon family have farmed the heavy clay land of Suffolk since the early 1900s. Jeffrey and Frank Claydon are the third generation to farm the land now under the E.T. Claydon and Sons family partnership name. The brothers started out in 1970 and still farm the land today. The manufacturing side of the business began in 1981, when Claydon Yield-o-Meter was established to sell its yield monitoring system.
Claydon Drill machines are developed on a working farm by farmers for farmers. All Claydon farm machinery is truly tried and tested in real farming conditions in a real farm environment before they are brought to market.
The Claydon Farm has not been ploughed since 2002 and Frank Claydon establishes around 400 hectares in an autumn drilling season with a single 6m Claydon Drill and a single tractor. He goes on to drill another 1,250 hectares on contract.
Since 2003, Claydon have become the European market leader in direct strip till. The company’s drills, straw harrow and inter-row hoes are now operating in over 30 countries across the world, supported by a network of distributors and dealers, and manufactured from the Claydon base in Suffolk.
Claydon Straw Harrow
The Claydon Straw Harrow creates a micro tilth in the top 30mm of soil, using the retained moisture for fast, even weed germination. It rakes out and destroys weeds at the cotyledon and one-leaf stage, removing a food source for slugs. Straw Harrows break up slug nests and desiccate their eggs by mixing up and exposing damp chaff and straw to sunlight.
The robust Claydon Straw Harrow has been designed for fast action and maximum effect weed germination. At speeds of up to 25km/h, they shatter straw and break it up for faster decomposition. They can be used before or after cultivations to level soil and create a fine tilth.
Five types of Straw Harrows are available in the range.
Claydon Drill machines and straw harrows are available from Chandlers Cirencester, Devizes, Bristol, Ross-On-Wye, Martley, Raglan and Bridgnorth depots.
