Chandlers apprentice Lauren Savage has been awarded the silver prize in a competition which aimed to find the country’s top land-based service technicians.
Lauren, 20 from Berkeley, finished second overall in the Land-based Education and Training Committee (LE-TEC) 2021 Technician of the Year competition. She is in the first year of her land-based service engineering apprenticeship at Chandlers Farm Equipment in Bristol and is studying for her qualifications at Moreton Morrell College, which is part of college group WCG.
A former car mechanic, Lauren entered into the awards following an email from her tutor at Moreton Morrell College. The award is designed to celebrate and find the UK’s best technicians in the land-based engineering sector, from apprentices to professionals already established in industry.
Lauren said: “It’s been less than a year since I took the plunge to go into this industry, so to be recognised in this way was a real surprise. I had been a car mechanic previously but knew that I loved to work on tractors and so decided to try and secure an apprenticeship in the field. Chandlers Farm Equipment gave me the opportunity and it’s been very rewarding over the last few months to support the agriculture industry. I hope it will inspire more women to become land-based service engineers.”
